High Park 35mm black white wildlife habitat
BRAMBLES ON THE POND, 35mm

While this portrait series is full of natural chaos and distinguished features, it is disturbing to imagine that wetland habitats for wading birds may once again become endangered. Historically, these shore birds were killed in the millions annually for their plumage to fashion women’s hats and decorate military uniforms. To ensure the survival of herons and egrets from hunting, strict conservation measures were established to protect and repopulate their numbers.

Currently, there is a growing threat due to the drainage, clearing, and burning of wetlands, as well as the introduction of invasive exotic plants.

Shot in the early morning, these images capture the quotidian events of hunting, mating and parenting, revealing a stark beauty and tranquil existence.
