The museum once functioned as a vital institution that validated the imperial project, and served as a reminder that colonial histories and scientific thought have been driven by colonial domination and oppression of non-western societies and cultures. Based on this knowledge, the question begs - how can these institutions continue to be important when their legacy is built on supremacy and violence, and is in serious need of dismantling?

A visit to the Royal Ontario Museum did not answer this question but it did make visible the ongoing threat to wildlife populations, destruction of ecosystems and at-risk habitats due to human activity and their incessant desire to display animal death.
